Meet Kong! We thought we'd start with Kong's shelter description and move on to his foster's description.
SHELTER: Kong was laying down in front of his bed near the kennel door. When I called for him he perked up and wiggled his booty. He had neutral eyes and let me easily reach in with the leash, putting his head right through and coming right out.
In the room, Kong was neutral, sniffing around and was very curious. I went to offer him some treats which made him very excited and he sat very nicely for them. He takes treats gently but can be impatient at times, jumping up and trying to grab them from you. He is a very neutral but cuddly boy. He prefers to be by himself but if you engage in affection with him, he will lean in, sit on your feet, and give sweet kisses. He liked to lay on my feet and lick them while I rubbed his head. He was very tolerant of handling and allowed me to pet him all over. He showed no interest in playing and minimal interest in toys. Kong received a Gold Level for behavior
FOSTER: Kong is fostered in a multi-dog home. He has shown himself to be non-reactive to other dogs, but is happiest to co-exist rather than engage. He has an EXCELLENT appetite and loves meal time. He is house and crate trained, with mild exceptions. He is not the kind of boy who will hold it until you come home or take him out. If we are late and he's not crated and he has to go, he will. But he does know he's not supposed to and will try to wait. He will feel guilty and hide afterwards if he has an accident. If crated, he will wait and wait. Or if baby-gated in the kitchen, he will wait. He does not want to eliminate in his area. When first in his crate, he will bark until he sees it's not working. And honestly, if we didn't have so many fosters, he wouldn't need to be crated. We do it for safety.
Kong loves his Kong Bubba, a certain stuffie he found in the house, marrow bones, and certain treats we have. He was picky when he first joined us, but has expanded his preferences! He is a proficient counter surfer, but immediately responsive to verbal correction.
Kong enjoys quiet attention and petting and will jump up for attention or treats periodically. However usually he is more so low key. Mostly, he loves to just lay by me while I work or watch TV.
Kong came to us with an old knee injury that wasn't taken care of. He was seen by an orthopedic surgeon who also reviewed his radiology report. He felt because it doesn't bother him, he did not need further intervention, however he did gave him an injection in his knee joint to support the growth of more cartilage.
Kong has not been cat tested. We'd like to see him in a home with either adults only or older children because he is a placid boy who likes peace and quiet.
If you'd like to be considered for Kong, the first step is to submit our application to help us determine if he's a match for your home.
